David E. Heckert, 70, of Temperance, MI, formerly of Toledo, OH, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, OH. Born Oct. 1, 1945, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Eustace and Roseanna (Davis) Heckert. He was a 1963 graduate of the former Macomber High School and then served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. David married Margaret A. Siemens on June 21, 1968. He was employed as a police officer for the Toledo Police Department for 21 years, retiring 1989. David was a member of the , American Legion, Post 512 and V.F.W., 606, both in Toledo, T.P.P.A., Retired Police Association, Toledo Police Golf League, Toledo Police Retiree’s Golf League, V.F.W., 606 Golf and Pool Leagues and Moose Lodge in Sylvania, OH. Dave enjoyed weekend camping with his family and friends and for 25 years, went to Put-In-Bay with the same four couples. He was also an avid Ohio State and Dallas Cowboys Fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret; children, Elizabeth (James) Rogers and James Heckert; brother, Charles (Thelma) Heckert; sisters, Carolyn Robinson and Becky (James) Black; and grandson, Jonathan Heckert. David was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Eddie Lee Heckert.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where the American Legion, Post 512 will conduct services at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Promedica Hospice.
